The totally great 1987 Vampire flick Near Dark is, according to its wiki entry, set to be remade starting in 09. If you havent seen this flick, a young cowboy meets some girl one night and she makes out with hin, then bites him on the neck. She runs out of the car they were in and he pursues, beginning to scorch in the dawn light. then her group of scoiopath vampire friends pick him up and they go galavanting through Oklahoma killing dozens of people. my favorite line is when Bill Paxton goes to drink some guys blood and says "I hate it when they ain't been shaved!" Its part of the Martin school of vampires, meaning the vamps in this film have no fangs or special powers. They do burn in the sun, tho. in that sense the mythos is more in line with Charlie Hustons Joe Pitt casebooks. (think 'criminal macabre' or an Andrew Vachss mystery with a vamp protagonist. Already dead, the first Joe Pitt casebook in in production too accord. to IMDB) whats kinda wierd is this movie had a lot of the cast of Aliens: Lance Henriksen, Jenette goldstein and Paxton. I fully expect the remake to be a paltry attempt to cash in on the vampire craze but who knows, it might be okay. Whats next? Martin? I kind of dig vampire flicks if their well done, and near dark is probably my fave of the bunch.
